Joe Steve Ó Neachtain 

1942 – 2020

Born and bred in an Cré Dhubh, An Spidéal, Joe Steve Ó Neachtain was a very proud man of the area in which he spent most of his life.

Joe Steve left his mark on the Gaeltacht by being an active participant in the Gaeltacht Civil Rights Movement as well as a versatile writer.

He was well known around the country for the part he played as Peadar Ó Conghaile on the soap Ros na Rún for 21 years of his life.

Joe Steve’s family, the community around him and the Irish language were the most important things in his life.

He was a multitalented writer that wrote dramas, short stories, novels, poetry, sketches, songs, pantos and dialogues.

The poetry and dramas he wrote were very popular amongst the people in his community.

Joe Steve Ó Neachtain is survived by his wife Máirín, his daughters Luisne and Aisling, his son Páid, his family and all of his friends.

He was truly one of a kind.
